TO WEAVING with Deborah Chandler This video introduces you to the tools,
yarns, vocabulary, projects, types of weaving and equipment that will
help you choose a direction that is just right for you. You learn how to
calculate & measure yarn quantities needed, and wind your warp using a
warping board, an essential ingredient to all weaving, & one you will
refer back to often as you continue to explore weaving. This video
serves as a prerequisite to all other weaving courses for those of you
who are new to weaving. 57 minutes |

With Nancy Arthur Hoskins. Are you fascinated & curious about weft-faced patterns and figures in
a woven piece? Nancy teaches you how to design, draft and weave those
interesting and intriguing loom-controlled figures with "boundweaving"
techniques. You will learn how one threading (Rosepath), can create an
infinite variety of designs by varying the tie-up, treadling, and color
order of the wefts. The sample projects include weaving with different
fibers and can be enlarged for pillows or framed wall pieces. The
boundweaving theory & weaving techniques learned will prepare you for
further exploration with weft-faced weaves using other threadings. 140

with Candace Crockett. This weaving technique allows you to
weave without a loom. It involves simple tools; card-weaving cards, and
yarn. This video teaches the basic techniques of card weaving, how to
measure the warp, thread the cards, set up and weave patterned bands and
how to stitch bands together to form larger fabrics. Once the pattern
(included) is determined & the cards are threaded, the weav-ing goes
very quickly. This course involves two projects. The first project is a
cotton band which can be used as a belt, neck piece, or strap, The
second project, using wool, involves a completely different warping and
weaving process and produces numerous patterns which will be woven in
four bands which can be stitched together to form a handsome tote bag or
purse. 97 minutes |

with Donna Sullivan. This video offers a systematic approach for
applying color principles to handwoven structures, from warp-faced to
weft-faced and in between. Woven examples illustrate the range of color
interactions in weaving. Yarn sequences, needle weavings, & handwoven
samplers are suggested as initial opportunities to study color effects
ranging from blending to vibration. You will learn how to successfully
use color, and how the color interaction is affected by your choice of
fiber and weave structure, size, distance and lighting. Your handwoven
pieces will be even more spectacular and successful once you understand
these principles. A valuable guide for all handweavers. 40 minutes

of tying the knots. It includes detailed instructions for building a
small frame loom that is strong enough to support a tight warp-which is
necessary for this type of weaving. Step-by-step instructions for
warping the loom, weaving, & finishing are so detailed that even the new
weaver will be proud of his first oriental cut-pile rug. A design is
provided as well as ideas for preparing future design. 101 minutes

Doubleweave Video 25

with Clotilde Barrett. If you have a small loom, you'll love the flex-ibility that this
technique gives you to weave a wider width cloth. If width isn't a
concern, you will find many challenges in weaving a double layer of
cloth, making one side one color or pattern, and the other side a
different color. You will weave a beautiful sampler which incorporates
just about all the four harness techniques which are based on the
double-weave principle. The sampler will remain an excellent reference
for later study. The techniques include weaving two separate layers,
folded cloth, tubes, slits, color-and-weave effects, pique, stitching,
quilting, and double-weave pick up patterning. 95 minutes

Weaving 4 Selvedge Textiles
On floor looms, with Martha Stanley. In 1977 rug
weaver Martha Stanley adapted the indigenous process of weaving
four-selvedge textiles so they could be woven on our floor looms. The
method described in this lecture, utilizes a continuous figure-8 warp to
create a textile with four selvedges similar to that of a Navajo rug.
While slower than working on a cut warp, it is substantially quicker
than the indigenous methods of this hemisphere since the sheds are
loom-controlled clear up to the end of the warp. Martha works on a large
loom making the process very clear & easily adaptable to any type of
floor loom. No more fringes or hems when you use this process on your
rugs!! 81 minutes |
